Central & East Freeborn Lutheran Parish Core Beliefs
God
There is one God, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:13, AC Art. 1)
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is both fully God and fully human. He was sent by the Father to live on earth, and freely laid down His life on a cross and rose again after three days. In doing so, He defeated sin, death and the devil. (Isaiah 9:6; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 2 Corinthians 5:21, AC Art. 3)
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit makes faith possible and calls us through the gospel. The Holy Spirit lives in every believer, gives spiritual gifts, and is a constant teacher, helper and guide. (1 Corinthians 12:3; John 14:26-27, Romans 8:14-17 AC Art. 5, AC Art. 18.)
People
All people are created in God's image for relationship. Unfortunately, we continually choose disobedience and sin, which fractures our relationship with God, creation and each other. (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:23, 6:23, AC Art.2, AC Art.16)
Salvation
Jesus Christ alone provides forgiveness and salvation. This is a free gift of grace, which we receive by faith. (Acts 4:12; John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8-9, AC Art. 4)
Baptism
God's gift of grace and mercy. Commanded by Jesus in Matthew 28:19. Promise of salvation in Mark 16:16. For more, see our Page Baptism; What is it?
Bible
The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is our authoritative source and rule of our story, faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The Church
The Church is the assembly centered on Christ's teaching & story and the body of Christ in the world. It is made up of all who put their faith in Christ and serve the world through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 4:4-6, 15-16, AC Art. 7, AC Art.8)
Christ’s Return
Jesus Christ will return to judge the living and the dead. (Matthew 25:31, AC Art. 17)
